Sfairopoulos: «We should stop them from scoring and creating»

Olympiacos is hosted on Friday (12/2, 19:45 LT) by CSKA Moscow for the 7th round of the Euroleague TOP-16. Giannis Sfairopoulos and DJ Strawberry spoke about the game against the Russian team.

GIANNIS SFAIROPOULOS: «We definitely have a tough mission. We play against the best offense of the TOP-16. We need to watch our defense, do what we have planned to do and we should not allow their scoring and creation. The tempo will play a role. We need to find their weak spots and attack them”.

Asked on whether the fact that CSKA plays in a new stadium changes something, the Greek coach answered that «it’s not important. CSKA Moscow plays well either at home or away and in any gym they may be playing. So, I don’t think that this is a factor”.

Questioned about his memories from having served in the bench of the Russian team as the associate of Jonas Kazlauskas, the Greek coach said that «I definitely have good memories from CSKA, but I’m with Olympiacos now and I’m trying to do my best for Olympiacos. I’m only interested in my team and no one else”.

A question was also made in regard to the statement made Dimitris Itoudis a few weeks ago in regard to the hard contact game played by Olympiacos and Giannis Sfairopoulos commented that «it doesn’t concern me at all».

DJ STRAWBERRY: «It’s going to be a difficult game. Each Euroleague game is difficult, so this is going to be the same. We need to fight for 40 minutes. We need to play hard, with energy on both ends of the floor, just like we did against Khimki. Defense is going to be the key. We need to be tough for 40 minutes and not allow them to follow their offensive plan”.
