Goss: "I don’t want to be leaving loose ends..."
Williams – Goss seemed to have ‘studied’ his history lesson and is ready to ‘add’ new chapters in the ‘red’s’ pages, when talking to olympiacosbc.gr.
“Olympiacos is one of the most historic teams in Europe. They have a great tradition and this is something I’m well aware of. So, being now a member of Olympiacos is a huge honor!”, was the first comment of the American guard, who is the first new signee of our team for the 2018-19 season.
His impressive performances with the Partizan jersey, were enough to intrigue a lot of teams. However, he had very specific reasons that made him choose to ‘dock’ at Piraeus… “First and foremost, the club is among the most historic in Europe. I also had in mind that should I be making the next step and play for a Euroleague team, I would like them to be a team that have a leading role each season and always aim to win the title. And that’s what Olympiacos has been doing all these years. I would like to win the Euroleague and I think we can do that with Olympiacos. Of course coach Blatt played a major role as well. As soon as he took over, he called me and showed that he was really interested in working with me. I really like his game style… Fast pace, giving guards a lot of responsibility”.
However, before he actually committed to signing, he checked out his new destination. “The truth is I did a small research… I spoke with Kyle Wiltjer and Dominic Waters who have played for Olympiacos and they both had only good things to say about the team and the organization. I also spoke with Jeremy Pargo, who has worked with Blatt”.
Although a rookie in the previous season (it was the first professional season of his career), he succeeded in making an impression and that’s how he got quickly … promoted. “I have confidence. I won’t hide it, I was expecting I would be playing at a high level at some point, however, you never know when this is going to happen. The truth is it was a surprise that so many high level teams recognized my style of playing and took an interest in me from my first professional season. I’m very happy about it, nevertheless, work never stops… It actually is just starting…”.
What else would he be able to contribute to the ‘reds’ game apart from confidence? “I think that my greatest advantage is that I play multiple positions. This is important since Vassilis Spanoulis will be staying with the team, a player I admire along with everyone else in Europe, so we are going to be able to play together as well. Apart from that, I’m very competitive. I only want to win and nothing can distract me from that goal”.
As for his expectations as a ‘red’, he was clear: “Olympiacos is a team that is always striving to win titles… The Euroleague, the Greek Championship, the Greek Cup. I want to win it all! I don’t want to be leaving loose ends!”.
