Together We Fight COVID-19 too!
During the difficult times we are facing due to the pandemic, Olympiacos BC feels it’s a self-evident duty to assist with all its power to the effort put by the State to re-enforce the Public Health Care System, actively help those in need and promote the contribution of those in the front lines of fighting this virus. Our doctors, nurses and the staff of the hospitals around the country.
To this end, we have come up with a special Social-Sporting program of official games, “Monday’s Game Night against COVID-19”, that has one more goal: To have the players and the Olympiacos organization first engage the fight against the transmission of the virus, relaying all the messages of the scientific community to our fellow citizens and hence contributing to the collective effort to curbe the pandemic until a COVID-19 vaccine is available and we come out as the definite winners from this daunting adventure.
There is going to be a series of official friendly games Olympiacos will be playing against Greek and European teams. Games that are going to be of charity nature and will be hosting different and various surprises each time. The games shall be held without the presence of fans in the stands of the Peace and Friendship Stadium and Olympiacos BC feels the need to warmly thank ERT for its support into materializing the said project, by broadcasting all the games that will be live on ERT3 so as thousands of basketball fans, both in Greece and abroad, will be able to watch them on ERTWorld.
The games will be held on Mondays (depending on our team’s schedule as well of that of our opponents) and will each time include certain actions directed to the COVID response. In all the games – beginning on Monday, November 30 and until the end of the season – all safety measures and protocols shall be strictly applied and adhered to, both the ones imposed by the Greek Organization for Public Health, as well as those according to which our Euroleague games are being held.
More specifically, this series of games shall be dedicated:
- to fighting the pandemic.
- to sensitivising the audience and promoting scientific messaging.
- to safely entertaining fans.
- to re-enforcing the State’s efforts.
- to rewarding social groups and professionals that contribute to fighting the pandemic.
- to covering for current needs of the National Health System and other organizations that contribute to fighting the pandemic and to similar goals.
A special place in our effort holds our desire to promote and reward the public servants (doctors, nurses, auxiliary staff etc), as well as private citizens, who are fighting at the front lines to beat the pandemic. For this reason, in each game a different category of public servants that participates the fight against COVID is going to be hosted and acknowledged.
The General Director of Olympiacos BC, Mr. Nikos Lepeniotis, made the following statement: “We have been processing this plan for months now and we feel it’s our duty to contribute in the best of our ability to the fighting this unique challenge that has been testing our country. With the “Monday’s Game Night against COVID-19’ program, we wish to meaningfully support the State’s efforts and participate the collective fight against COVID-19 with the spirit of solidarity, hoping that humanity is going to emerge winning the soonest possible. Of course, the Olympiacos’ BC sponsors are going to have a special role in all of this program, along with a series of companies and organizations with which we have been and continue to be in contact, aiming to the most dynamic impact this program can possibly have. We would also like to thank in advance all the teams, from Greece and abroad, that have already accepted the invitation and we hope that more are going to participate in the future”.
The first game of the “Monday’s Game Night against COVID-19” has been scheduled for Monday (30/11) at 19.30 CET and the ‘reds’ opponent is going to be Kolossos Rhodes. Hence, we wish to extend our sincerest gratitude to the Kolossos Administration for their immediate response.
