Unbreakable!
Despite the many important absentees, Olympiacos bested Crvena Zvezda at the SEF 88-83, for the 9th round of the Euroelague, sealing a perfect 2/2 during the double game week.
The guests got to lead 2-7 at 2', but the 'red & whites' reacted in time and relying on Alec Peters and Isaiah Canaan for their offence, they tied the game at 15 each. Our team led for the first time at 9' (20-18), however, Zvezda, that was exceptionally good from the perimeter, replied with a 5-0 partial and closed the first quarter at +3 (20-23). The Serbians increased the margin to 8p. (31-39 at 16'), but with good defense and Moustapha Fall and Giannoulis Larentzakis dominating the court, Olympiacos succeeded in turning the situation around and finishing the first half leading by one (45-44).
The 'red & whites' put even more pressure in defense during the second half, moved the ball more efficiently and with Peters and Cacaan executing successfully, they built a +14 lead (64-50) at 29'. Olympiacos maintained control without problems up until 36' (80-66), but the Serbs took advantage of our team's bad decisions when attacking and striking from long range dropped the difference to 5p. following a partial 9-0 (80-75) at 38'. Thanks to its good defensive game, our team originially kept its distance and 2/2 free throws by Peters gave us a 7 point lead (82-75), with 45'' on the clock.
The last seconds...
Teodosic 'struck' from the 6.75m (82-78), he then received a techinical and Peters made his free throw for the 83-78. From the free throw line also and with a total of 2 out of 4, Walkup made the score 85-78. Nedovic closed in 85-80, Walkup once again made 1 of his 2 free throws (86-80), Nedovic scored a three for the 86-83 score (14.9'' on the clock), while Papanikolaou made both his free throws, puttting an end to the game (88-83).
