A loss to Real at the Peace & Friendship Stadium
Olympiacos lost to Real in packed Peace & Friendship Stadium 71-77, for the 12th round of the Euroleague and is now completely training its focus on the Friday game against Bayern.
The match up did not start well for our team, since before even 3' minutes were played, Isaiah Canaan had already committed 2 fouls and watched the rest of the first half from the bench. At the same time, Tavares was absolutely dominating the post, and had a major impact on the Spanish team setting the tone and getting a 6p. lead (17-23) at 9'.
The tragically off-target Olympiacos during the first quarter (1/9), found scoring with Walkup and McKissic and closed in to one point (27-28). However, Real succeeded to once again gain distance, mainly with Hezonja (+8, 29-37 at 18'). The 'red & whites' did not give up the fight. They pressed in defense and running a partial 7-0 with Fall and Larentzakis closed in to one point (36-37) at 20'.
With Alec Peters and Isaiah Canaan running point, Olympiacos succeeded in getting in the driver's seat for the first time at 25' (46-45). But, Real's perimeter and more specifically, Musa, 'punished' our team's lackluster defense and regained the lead (52-57 at 28').
Despite all that, our team made yet another come back... With improved defense and better long-range shooting, got ahead at 33' (65-64), while the game remained a derby up until 35' (68-69). It was somewhere there though that Olympiacos suffered black-out, which the guests took advantage of and secured the win.
The quarters: 19-23, 36-37, 57-61, 71-77.
