A huge win over Monaco
Olympiacos beat Monaco 74-73 in a packed Peace and Friendship Stadium, closing a perfect (2/2) Euroleague 'super week'.
Taking advantage of our team's voids in defense, Monaco got a +8 lead (13-21) at 9', but Bartzokas' players reacted in time. With Nigel Williams-Goss impeccably organizing the game and Shaquielle McKissic spearheading the offense, the 'red & whites' got ahead 28-26 at 15', but weren't able to impose the rhythm. The Monegasques put pressure in the back court, leading Olympiacos to bad decisions when in offense, hence closing the first half in the lead.
The game was balanced up until 24' (42-42), but inefficient ball movement and bad decision making, allowed Monaco to gain a 6p. lead at 27' (48-54). Isaiah Canaan took over at that point (56-58 at 30') and stopped the guests from creating a safe distance for themselves, while the American guard was also the one to give our team the lead (67-66) at 37' (for the first time after 22'). Consecutive lost defensive rebounds and a three by Okobo once again put Monaco in the driver's seat, while Fall tied the score 69-69.
The last minute...
A new series of lost rebounds followed, with Shaquielle McKissic writing the 72-69 with a three, following an assist by Alec Peters (22'' before the end). With one of two free throws, Okobo closed in 72-70 (15.7'' on the clock), Canaan made both his free throws to make the score 74-70 (12.9''), while James kept Monaco 'alive' (74-73, 5.9''). The final 75-73 was written by Alec Peters, who made good on one of his free throws, since the shot Mike James took from behind the center did not find target.
The quarters: 17-21, 34-36, 56-58, 75-73.
