Knocked out Maccabi with a ...sold out!
Olympiacos bested Maccabi Tel Aviv 89-72 in a sold-out SEF, for the 22nd round of the Euroleague, returning to a winning trajectory.
With good defense and Isaiah Canaan, Alec Peters and Nikola Milutinov running point in the offense, the 'red & whites' imposed the rhythm and built a +13 lead (23-10) at 8'. Maccabi put pressure on the backcourt and took advantage of their superiority in the post when our team played without a center (Moustapha Fall was decommissioned for three weeks due to injury and Milutinov was pulled to the bench for some rest), tying the score 28-28. However, the Serbian center's return on the floor restored the order and Olympiacos closed the first half at +6 (42-36).
In the second half, Bartzokas' players began the game with more energy, played pressing defense, opened fire from the three-point line and sent the difference sky-rocketing at +16 (57-61). Maccabi tried to close in (59-47 at 17'), but consistently relying on perimeter shooting and the excellent Isaiah Canaan, Olympiacos not only maintained control but widened the distance to 21 p. (78-57) by 32'. Bad decisions and unforced turnovers allowed the Israelis to close to 13p. (83-70), but that was that... Nikola Milutinov (who scored an incredible double-double), took action once again and our team got the final win with ease.
The quarters: 26-18, 42-36, 69-57, 89-72.
