A big win in Munich!
With the help of their animated fans (about 800 'red & whites' fans attended the game in the tribunes), Olympiacos got a big road win in Germany. Our team bested Bayern in Munich 76-72, for the 25th round of the Euroleague.
With good defense and Ignas Brazdeikis scoring 9p. (with three 2-point shots and an additional free throw for each one!), the 'red & whites' closed the first quarter at +4 (14-18). Nigel Williams-Goss came in 'hot' and led Olympiacos' offense, however, his two quick fouls forced Giorgos Bartzokas to retire him early. Nevertheless and despite bad percentages, our team was once again at +4 (31-35) with a bucket by Shaquielle McKissic. Turnovers and a lagging defense allowed Bayern to responde with a 7-0 streak and come ahead 38-35 at the end of the first half.
The hosts passed the ball in the low post to Ibaka building a 7p. lead (44-37) at 24'. Olympiacos though put more pressure on defense and with Thomas Walkup taking a leading role, succeeded in reversing the situation (51-54 at 30'). Filip Petrusev was doing an excellent job in the post on both ends and Walkup was consistently scoring, hence the 'red & whites' increased the distance to 9p. (51-60 at 32'). Bayern opened fire from the perimeter and closed in to 65-68, but Petrusev kept our team alive (69-74) with 10'' on the clock. Francisco made the score 72-74 with a three and the Germans immediately fouled on Larentzakis, who kept his cool at the free throw line, writing the 72-76 score (3.7'' to the end), thus 'sealing' the win.
Our team played with Moustapha Fall, who is injured, while Nikola Milutinov will be inactive for the next two months.
The quarters: 14-18, 38-35, 51-54, 72-76.
