Big win in Kaunas!
Problems and injuries can't break Olympiacos! The 'red & whites' subdued Zalgiris in Kaunas 76-95 for the 27th day of the Euroleague winning them another big road game.
Our team travelled to Lithuania without the injured Nigel Williams-Goss, Giannoulis Larentzakis and Naz Mitrou-Long, while the captain, Kostas Papanikolaou played on a painkilling injection, due to lower back problems.
With good defense and Alec Peters running point in the offense, Olympiacos got to lead by 7p. (8-15) at 6'. The hosts reacted, put pressure in defense, took advantage of our team's poor shooting (1/6 three-point shots) and closed in to 20-23 at 10'. Thomas Walkup played a big role into our team maintaining the lead (25-30), but the Lithuanians with two back-to-back threes got ahead 31-30 at 16', Frome there on, the game became a derby, with Olympiacos finally closing the first half in the lead, thanks to a spectacular dunk by Shaquielle McKissic (+2, 39-41).
In the second half, our team took it up a notch... They pressed in the back court, Walkup found score from the perimeter, Peters kept on scoring, Wright dominated the post and the difference came to its peak in the 3rd quarter (15p., 49-64) at 27'. The 'red & whites' though did not stop there... They continued playing pressing defense, once again scored from the perimeter with McKissic putting even more distance between the two teams (21p., 61-82) at 34'. The hosts played full court press and closed in to 14p. (73-87) at 38'. Shaquielle McKissic and Alec Peters once again stepped up though, putting an end to any hopes the opponent might have had.
The quarters: 20-23, 39-41, 56-69, 76-95.
