A win over Virtus and now aims higher
Olympiacos bested Virtus 74-69 for the 28th Euroleague roundin a packed SEF, covered for margin of the first game loss to the Italians and is still in trajectory to win best 4 ranking!
The Italians tried to take advantage of their good perimeter percentages and set the tempo (6-12), but - despite his many turnovers - Olympiacos having Isaiah Canaan taking center stage, stabilized the game (21-22 at 10'). However, the 'red & whites' later got to 'pay' for their lack of creating and saw Virtus gaining a +12 lead (34-46). Finally, a three by captain Kostas Papanikolaou (who scored 11 points in the 2nd quarter), our team closed in 37-46 at 20'.
Through some pressing defense (that did not allow the Italian team from scoring more than 5 points in the 3rd quarter), the 'red & whites' found rhythm in offense, where with Nigel Williams-Goss and Moustapha Fall got to turn the game around and find themselves with a 6-point lead at 30' (57-51). Despite continuous poor shooting from the free-throw line, Olympiacos maintained total control (68-57) up until 37'. During the last three minutes of the game, some bad choices by our team gave the Italians hope (71-67), but a three by Alec Peters (74-67) shuttered them for good.
