A Pyrrhic victory in Rhodes

Olympiacos got a blowout victory in Rhodes (100-66), for the 5th day of the Basket League Top 6, but lost Filip Petrusev in the process.

The Serbian forward suffered a sprain at 16' and the severity of his situation will be assessed tomorrow (13/05).

As for the game, the 'red & whites' met no resistance, with the exception of the first quarter (19-23). The hosts got to lead 14-9 at 6', but Moses Wright took over and with a partial 6-0 our team got ahead 14-15 at 8'. From there on, the hosts had to constantly look at the backs of Bartzokas' players.  Playing a good defensive game and with Shaquielle McKissic and Alec Peters leading, Olympiacos set the tempo (19-33) and closed the first half at +11 (37-48).

However, Bartzokas' players entered the second half determined to 'finish' the game ealy on, which they did... Relying on the Peters - Papanikolaou - Canaan triplet, they sent the margin skyrocketing to 22p. (40-62 at 24') and not only saw to maintain the distance, but also increase it. The +34 margin of the final 66-100 score was the largest one of the game also. During that time, the coach had the chance to use players that usually don't get many minutes. Giorgos Tanoulis was among them, who was later the epicenter of a water throwing celebration as an acknowledgment of his good performance by his teammates.

* Our team traveled to Rhodes without Thomas Walkup, Giannoulis Larentzakis (rested), Moustapha Fall (off roster as the 6th foreigner of the team) and Ignas Brazdeikis, Luke Sikma and Nikola Milutinov who are ineligible to play in the Basket League.

The quarters: 19-23, 37-48, 48-79, 66-100.
