Everything for the crown at the Peace and Friendship Stadium!
Olympiacos fought but failed to sweep the series. The team lost at the OAKA to Panathinaikos 76-83 and is now going to give it all during the Wednesday game (12/06, 20.15 CET) for the win that will crown them Greek Champions.
Only 1:30'' following the tip-off, Isaiah Canaan was charged with a second foul, while before 4 minutes of game time were completed, the same happened with captain, Kostas Papanikolaou. Both were prematurely benched, with Giorgos Bartzokas having the 'shuffle' his cards early on. At first the 'red & whites' resisted (19-18), but, Panathinaikos, taking advantage of our team's bad percentages and with Nunn and Lessort spearheading their offense, they imposed the tempo and built a 16p. lead (40-24) by 17'. Our team did not give up the fight though... They pressed in defensed, found solutions with Milutinov, Peters and Canaan and running a partial 10-3 closed in to 9p. (43-34), by the end of the first half.
With good defense and Isaiah Canaan leading the counter offensive, Olympiacos slowly but consistently succeeded in chirping away at the difference and closing into 2p. (61-59) at 30'. The derby was on fire and despite Canaan been charged with his fourth foul at 32', just like Milutinov only seconds later, the 'red & whites' not only kept on fighting, but 4:42'' before the end got in the driver's seat with a bucket by the Serbian center (72-73). However, at the most critical time in the game, physical and mental fatigue seemed to finally break them... Bad defensive operation, unforced mistakes and bad decisions in the offense, allowed Panathinaikos to run a partial 11-3 score and seal the win in their favor.
The quarters: 23-18, 43-34, 61-59, 83-76.
