Friendly game: Trapani – Οlympiacos 90-95

Olympiacos beat Trapani 95-90 in a friendly game held in the same-name town of Sicily.

Mainly relying on Sasha Vezenkov, the 'red & whites' tried to set the tempo (they were leading 13-17 by 5'). However, the pressing defense by the Italian did not allow them to do so.

The hosts led our team to back-to-back turnovers and bad decisions in the offense, when at the same time they were passing the ball inside the paint and got a one point lead at 10' (25-24). In the second quarter, Olympiacos once again got ahead (32-37 at 15'), but wasn't able to completely control the game.

Repesa's players took advantage of the empty spaces in our team's defense and tied the score 40-40. Thomas Walkup opened fire from the 3-point line and gave a 5p. margin to our team (44-49), that closed the first half leading by 3 (48-51). With seven consecutive points by Tyler Dorsey, Olympiacos led by 8 (50-58 at 22'). However, turnovers and bad decisions allowed Trapani to strike from the perimeter and turn the game around (got ahead 63-60 at 25').

The game remained balanced up until 31' (72-73), but at that point, it was Evan Fournier who took over and sent the difference to +8 (72-80 at 33'). The ambitious Lega newcomer continued making life difficult for Olympiacos. They took advantage of our team's sub-par defensive night and once again evened the score (90-90 with 57'' on the clock).

Finally, what was 'hurting' Olympiacos for the longest part of the game was what actually gave them the win: defense. Bartzokas' players pressed the Italians and a three by Alec Peters (90-93, with 36'' on the clock) and two free throws by Sasha Vezenkov gave the team the 90-95 win.

The quarters: 25-24, 48-51, 70-73, 90-95.
