Super Cup 2024: Olympiacos wins the first trophy of the season!

The season's first derby went to the 'red & whites' after Olympiacos edged Panathinaikos 86-85 and hence won the Super Cup for the third season in a row!

With Tyler Dorsey making a strong start in the game, Olympiacos ran a partial 11-3 in the first 4 minutes, until the power-dunk by Moses Wright broke the rim and led the game to pause for thirty minutes (6-12). The game went on uninterrupted following the repair of the damage, and the 'red & whites' continued 'bombarding' from the perimeter, while at the same time remaining absolutely focused on their defensive game. The first quarter closed with the Piraeus team at +5 (16-21). In the second quarter, Filipe Petrusev and Sasha Vezenkov entered our team's offensive equation, which had a +8 lead by 19' and finally went to the break leading by 7 (38-45).

In the third quarter, Panathinaikos having Kostas Sloukas, Jerai Grant and Marius Grigonis leading the counter-attack, initially tied the score (53-53, 26') and then got ahead for the first time after the first bucket of the game (56-55, 27'). The 'greens' were once again ahead at 28' (62-57), after running a partial 18-5, during the five minutes that our defense lacked intensity. Bartzokas' players were quick to re-act though and with excellent collaboration in offense ran a fast 6-0 that had Sasha Vezenkov's signature all over it and closed the quarter at +1 (62-63).

In the last quarter, the Piraeus team took their streak to 10-0, resulting in turning the -5 of 28' to +5 at 32' (62-67). The game was very intense as the clock was running out, with the 'greens' tying (68-67, 34'), but Olympiacos had the reigns throughout the remainder of the game. Petrusev and Vezenkov took over at the end, with Vezenkov scoring a decisive three to make the score 84-75 for our team, with 35'' on the clock. Clear thinking and patience at the end led us to the 86-85 win that secured the first trophy of the season!
