A defeat in Turkey for the Euroleague premiere

Olympiacos lost to Fenerbahce (82-71) in Turkey, paying the price for rebounds lost.

Fenerbhace's size inside the post caused problems for Olympiacos in the first minutes of the game on both ends of the court. Nigel Williams-Goss was the one to open the score for our team (4-2), that did not project clear thinking when attacking and hence closed the first quarter trailing by 4 (17-13). In the second quarter, Olympiacos having Shaquielle McKissic in a leading role, brought the game where he wanted it to be. The American forward gave scoring and with a magnificent buzzer beater (26-19), gave a significant psychological boost to the team. The 'red & whites' initially tied the score with Moses Wright dunking in the transition (28-28, 16') and then got ahead (30-32, 18'), with Walkup finishing the fast-break. Half-time found Olympiacos leading by 4 (32-36).

In the third quarter, back-to-back turnovers by Olympiacos allowed Fener to set the tempo. The hosts got ahead (44-42, 22'), but Moses Wright had the answer for the Piraeus team, offering score that kept them close enough. The lead came with Evan Fournier at 27' (52-54). Lost rebounds though cost our team that closed the quarter trailing by 1 (57-56). In the fourth quarter. Filip Petrusev was added to the offensive equation of the team, tying the score at 33', with McKissic making both of his free throws (65-65). Fener though took advantage of our subpar defense and ran a partial 8-0 that gave her the lead (73-65, 36'). Hayes-Davis scored a decisive three and one to make the score 79-69 at 38', and the hosts never receded their lead up until the final 82-71 win.
