Lost in Munich
Olympiacos lost to Bayern in Munich 84-80 for the 5th Euroleague round.
With four points by Moustapha Falla and another two by Sasha Vezenkov, Olympiacos began - with his usual initial powerful game - against Bayern (2-6, 2'). However, later on, a series of hasty offensive decisions and lack of intensity in defense, allowed Bayern to run a partial 9-0 (11-6, 5'). Sasha Vezenkov had the answer for the 'red & whites' and with two quick buckets made the score 13-12 at 7', while Kostas Papanikolaou with a three at 8' tied the game (15-15) and a little while later gave our team a slight advantage (18-19, 9'), with the quarter closing at 20-19. In the second quarter, Olympiacos found a new protagonist in Luca Vildoza. The Argentinian guard score 5p. and dished an assist that gave our team the 24-26 lead at 12'. Bayern succeeded in getting ahead 32-28 at 16', but the Piraeus team managed a magnificent closure to the quarter, running a partial 15-0 with good decision-making in offense and clear focus on defense and went to the break leading by 11 (32-43).
The second half began with Vezenkov and Papanikolaou striking from the 6.75m (37-49, 23') and the hosts responding in the same way (42-49, 24'). Turnovers and bad defense facilitated for a 10-0 run by Bayern (47-49, 26'), up until a three by Thomas Walkup made the score 47-52. At 27', the German team got ahead 55-54, but Sasha Vezenov and Evan Fournier kept Olympiacos in the driver's seat (55-59), with the quarter closing at 59-61.
In the final quarter, Edwards and Booker continued hurting our team, but two back-to-back threes by Tyler Dorsey and Shaquielle McKissic offered solutions (66-71, 34'). However, inaction in defense and poor choices when attempting at scoring, allowed the hosts to score 9 unanswered points (75-71, 36') and the game became a derby. Two consecutive threes by Walkup and Dorsey gave our team a one-point game (79-78, 38'), but Napier scored a crucial three (82-78), when at the same time Sasha Veznkov was missing two attempts of his own at the end, with the game ending 84-80.
The quarters: 20-19, 32-43, 59-61, 84-80.
