A loss at home to Panathinaikos

Olympiacos lost to Panathinaikos 71-78 at home, in the first derby of the season for the 'eternal rivals' and the Basket League.

With Moustapha Fall dominating both ends of the floor, Olympiacos 'targeted' the post and got to lead 8-3 at 2', taking advantage of its superiority at the '5' position. Panathinaikos struck from the perimeter, ran a partial 4-12 (16-23, 6'), but the 'red & whites' had the answer and with a 7-0 or their own tied the score at the end of the first quarter (23-23). The second quarter began with 3 back-to-back points by Nikola Milutinov (26-23, but the 'greens' continued being extremely effective from the three-point line, creating problems for our team's perimeter defense. At 15', a three by Dorsey made the score 34-32 for a another 4-16 partial to follow, which was the result of bad decision-making in the offense and lack of intensity in defense, to write the 38-48 score that marked the end of the first half.

At the beginning of the third quarter, Fournier brought the difference down to 7p. (41-48), but defense did not have the intensity and speed required, resulting in the 'small ball' Panathinaikos was playing to continue 'hurting' us from the long-range. A three by Thomas Walkup at the buzzer kept Olympiacos close to the score by the end of the third quarter (55-62). In the fourth quarter. the guests ran a quick 7-0 partial (55-69) that gave them a +12 lead, with our team not thinking straight when in offense. Ineffective defense allowed the 'greens' to get ahead by 16p. (55-73, 15'), with Moses Wright offering a small breather in terms of scoring, with 3 consecutive buckets that dropped the distance (65-75, 37'), but the time not being enough for a total recall and Panathinaikos leaving the gym with the 71-78 win.
