An easy victory in Mykonos

In a historic game for Mykonos (their first ever home match in the top division), Olympiacos comfortably defeated the local team 91 - 65, in the context of the 4th round of the Stoiximan Basket League.

The 'red & whites' led by 8 points (3 - 11) in the 6th minute, but the hosts’ tough defense disrupted their rhythm. The result? Mykonos responded with a 12 - 3 run and took a one point lead (15 - 14). The home team ended the first quarter ahead 19 - 18, but with Lee, Larentzakis, and Dorsey taking charge, Olympiacos regained control (19 - 26 at 13’). Mykonos continued to rely on its strong defense to stay close in the score, and succeeded, as halftime found Olympiacos leading by only 6 (29 - 35).

In the second half, however, Giorgos Bartzokas’ players made things much simpler. They pressed hard on defense, started hitting from beyond the arc (courtesy of Vezenkov, Ward, and Ntilikina), dominated the rebounds, and stretched the lead to 18 points (37 - 55 at 25’). But they didn’t stop there… Continuing with the same defensive intensity and great ball movement, with Dorsey leading the charge, they pushed the margin to 26 points (42 - 68 at 30’).

Although the win was sealed early, the 'red & whites' refused to slow down. With Lee as their offensive spearhead, the difference ballooned to 36 points (49 - 85 at 36’). Coach Giorgos Bartzokas took the opportunity to rest key players ahead of the EuroLeague double week, yet the gap remained steady until the final buzzer.

  • Out of the 12-man roster for this game were Thomas Walkup and Evan Fournier.

The quarters: 19 - 18, 29 - 35, 42 - 68, 65 - 91.
