A comfortable win in Patras
Olympiacos bested Promitheas in Patras 64-88 and got its 7th victory of the Stoiximan GBL in 7 games, remaining at the top of the rankings.
Our team got back to performing up to standards and set the basis for winning early on in the game, in a court that the Olympiacos' fans made it resemble the Peace and Friendship Stadium. Olympiacos relied on good defense and only allowed 23 points for Promitheas in the first half, hence getting a +22 lead in the first half.
Sasha Vezenkov with 18 points and Saben Lee with 15 stood out for the guests, while Dorsey and Peters helped a lot seeing to putting the team in the driver's seat from the onset.
Sasha Vezenkov scored the first 6 points of the game and then Tyler Dorsey got the baton and made three back-to-back threes raising the difference to 7 points (12-19) at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, our team increased the pressure even more, with Alec Peters making successive twos, hence building a double-digit lead. In the second half of the quarter, it was Saben Lee's turn to shine. The American guard scored 9 points during that time and having Kostas Papanikolaou as a close ally, dishing 5 assists, they sky-rocketed the lead to 22 points (halftime, 23-45).
Promitheas took advantage of some mistakes our team made in the second half, closing in to 14 (36-50) three minutes into the third quarter. However, Olympiacos was quick to react and with Vezenkov who was unstoppable close to the rim, closed the third quarter at +22 again (46-68).
In the fourth quarter, our team played spectacular basketball at times, with Donta Hall being the main receptor of the ball in the post and hence becoming the fifth Olympiacos players with double digit scoring (Vezenkov, Lee, Peters and Dorsey were the other 4).
Olympiacos finally got the win with a surplus of 24 points over Promitheas and continues to dominate the Stoiximan GBL.
The next game for our team is a home one against Paris for the 12th Round of the EuroLeague.
