An easy win at Peristeri

Olympiacos defeated Peristeri 105–62 at the “Andreas Papandreou” arena and maintained a perfect 10/10 winning record for the Stoiximan GBL.

Sasha Vezenkov was the top scorer for our team, while the victory came after an extraordinary third quarter in which Olympiacos went on a 24–0 run.

Giorgos Bartzokas started the game with Walkup, Fournier, Peters, Vezenkov and Milutinov, with Vezenkov scoring our team’s first 6 points of the game.

Vezenkov scored 10 points in the first quarter and, together with Alec Peters, led Olympiacos offensively at the start of the game. For Vasilis Xanthopoulos’ team, Ty Nichols had an excellent start, scoring 8 points and recording two steals to help his team close the quarter with a one-point lead (21–22).

In the second quarter, Vezenkov continued at the same pace and Olympiacos raised its level on both defence and offense, reaching a double-digit lead (24–34) in the 14th minute.

Last season’s Stoiximan GBL MVP was substituted for the first time a minute later, having scored 17 of our team’s 36 points. Eventually, the halftime margin stood at 15 points (35–50), with Tyler Dorsey providing offensive solutions.

After the break, our team tightened its defence even more and upped the tempo on the offensive end as well. It is characteristic that Peristeri scored a mere 3 points in 9 minutes, with the ‘red & white’ run reaching 24–0. The main protagonist of our team’s dominant quarter was Alec Peters, as Olympiacos executed everything coach Bartzokas asked for and won the period 32–9.

The fourth quarter had a procedural nature, with Olympiacos putting on a show and surpassing the 100-point mark to reach 10 wins in as many games in the Stoiximan GBL. The final score was 62–105, with a delightful Kostas Papanikolaou in the closing minutes.

The quarters: 21–22, 35–50, 44–82, 62–105
