A defeat at the end
Olympiacos lost to Siena 74 – 72 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium, but the ‘reds’ have submitted an objection since the timer got “stuck” at 10’’ before the end and thus the game is yet to be decided.
The Giorgos Bartzokas team started the game well and managed to lead 25-20 at the first quarter thanks to the excellent performance of Giorgi Shermadini in both offense and defense.
The Georgian center had been terrific, but in the second quarter, the “reds” were nervous and had bad shooting percentages and thus were trailing at half time 36-38. The lead was changing hands from basket to basket in the third quarter, which ended with the European and Greek Champions trailing by 1 (51-52).
In the last quarter, it was Hines and Spanoulis that took over and with five consecutive points by the captain the score was 72-67 at 39’. The Italians, however, succeeded a 7-0 run and got the victory. This was achieved with a lay-up by Brown, after the timer had stuck at 10’’ for three seconds and that’s how the American had time to go for the lay-up.
The team has submitted an objection after the end of the game and they are now waiting for the decision of the Euroleague.
