Defeat by details

Despite absentees (Milutinov and Agravanis were not included in the rotation), Olympiacos fought to win in Germany but fell short. The team lost to Bamberg 65-67 for the 12th day of the Euroleague.

Trinchieri's team tried to impose the tempo from the start (12-7 at 6'), however, despite winning the rebounds, was not able to ... Olympiacos stopped them with good defense (15-14 at 10'0, while 'striking' from the perimeter with Wiltjer, Strelnieks and Mantzaris succeeded in turning the game and with a partial 16-4 got to lead by 11 (19-30 at 15'). The Germans, with Hickman and Wright answered with a 9-0 streak 928-32), but then Vasilis Spanoulis took over and widened the margin (29-40 at 19'0. Halftime went down at 32-40 with a three by Hickman, that was also the first successful three for the hosts.

The 'reds' continued with excellent percentages from the perimeter, which allowed them to maintain complete control (44-55) throughout the 3rd quarter and up to 34' (52-62). Nevertheless, five minutes of a complete offensive shut down for our team (not even one point made), allowed Bamberg that had scored 15 points during the same time with Rubit as the main protagonist to head by 5 (67-62). About 29'' before the end, Janis Strelnieks closed in to two (65-67) and renewed the chances for a victory, while by playing a good defensive play he also gave Olympiacos the last offense of the game with 10.1'' to go. There was enough time, however, the choice made was not the right one and the 'reds' missed the opportunity of getting one more road victory.

"We lacked clear thinking"

Our team's coach, Giannis Sfairopoulos, stated: "We played very well in the first 30 minutes, but we did attack properly at the end, did not make the right decisions. Bamberg changed the way they were defending, played switching on the pick n' roll, we were not executing well and that was the reason we only scored 7 points in the last quarter. at the end, we did not have a clear haed and defined thinking so as to attack properly against this defense and score easy points. Bamberg took advantage of that and won the game. Congrats to Bamberg for the victory".
