A battle was lost, but not the war…
Olympiacos lost the second game for the Euroleague playoffs to Monaco 72-96 and lost the home court advantage in the series.
The battle was lost, however, the war is still waging… Now the games will be transferred to the Principality of Monaco.
The ‘reds’ made an impressive beginning building a +10 difference (14-4) at 7’. However, nothing worked right for our team after that (21-15 at 13’)… The French put pressure in the backcourt, found target from the perimeter and with a 20-0 streak got to lead by 14 (21-35 at 17’). However, Olympiacos was not able to react even at that point. Bad shooting from the free throws line and bad decisions in the offense, allowed Monaco to close the first half at +22 (28-40).
In the second half, Bartzokas’ players moved the ball better and improved on their offensive outlook (34-44), but they absolutely failed their defense. With Mike James – who had been completely subdued in the first game – spearheading their offense, Monaco increased the distance even further (+21, 45-66 at 29’). The situation became irreversible at that point with the guests steadily maintaining complete control (69-94 at 38’) up to the end of the game.
* Hassan Martin did not play the second game either due to a hematoma in the outer surface of his right hip.
The quarters: 16-10, 28-40, 51-69, 72-96.
