One more win and now preparing for Monaco!
Olympiacos bested Aris in Thessaloniki 83-66, for the 3rd day of the Basket League, remained undefeated in both Greece and Europe and is now solely focusing on the Thursday game (27/10, 18:45 CET) against Monaco at the SEF.
Our team began the game playing at a slower tempo than usual, which allowed the hosts to 'strike' from the perimeter and lead 6-1. However, Kostas Papanikolaou and Sasha Vezenkov took action and restored the order... The 'red & whites closed the 1st quarter at +7 (13-20), while with good defense and facilitation in offense (they dished 16 asissts in the first half), they completely imposed the tempo and send the difference skyrocketing at 18p. (16-34) at 16', consistently maintaining the distance up until the end of the first half.
Relying on good defense, as well on good perimeter percentages, Bartzokas' players widened the bearth to +24 (36-60 at 27') turning the game into a mere procedure very early on. With a goal-foul by Peters Olympiacos was at +25 (46-71 at 31'), while despite the many turnovers our team later made and quite a few poor choices in the offence, they remained absolutely dominant on the floor (54-78 at 37') and came to win with characteristic ease.
- The 'red & whites' played with a black ribbon on their jerseys in mourning for the passing of Anatoly Zourpenko.
The quarters: 13-20, 25-41, 46-68, 66-83.
