Cruised through Patras with no brakes…
Olympiacos ‘shattered’ Promitheas in Patras 100-72 and is still undefeated in the Basket League after seven games.
Up until minute 4 (15-15) offenses were dominating. However, in just a few minutes, everything changed. Olympiacos put pressure in defense, sped off in offense and with Vezenkov, McKissic and Black in leading roles, and also Walkup (who got to dish 10 assists in the first 12 minutes he was on the floor), closed the first quarter at +19 (20-39).
All the more, the 39 points of the first quarter (scored with amazing percentages: 1/1 1p., 10/11 2p. and 6/7 3p.), constitute a ‘red & white’ record with the Basket League!
The tempo somewhat slowed down after that, however, the difference became even bigger. Isaiah Canaan took over scoring and the difference went up to +24 (29-53 at 16’). Promitheas tried to close in ‘striking’ from the perimeter, but was not able to close in any more than 20p. (37-57).
The game seemed to be prematurely decided, however, Bartzokas’ players refused to relax. With the same consistently in defense and Sasha Vezenkov and Shaquielle McKissic executing with stellar percentages from the three point line, they sent the difference to 39p. (48-87) at 30’.
With a bucket and one by Papanikolaou, our team was leading with +41 (54-95 at 34’), but then the rhythm slowed down and Promitheas was allowed to cut back on the point difference (72-100). As for the 100th point, it was scored by Isaiah Canaan (66-100) at 39’.
- Kostas Sloukas did not play due to discomfort in his right foot. Joel Bolomboy hit his shoulder and did not play in the second half. Alec Peters was not in the final roster.
- Our team tied its best three-point shooting performance in the Greek League with the 17 threes it got to score in the game *Koroivos – Olympiacos (23.05.2015) 59:91, 17* Larisa – Olympiacos (06.12.2021) 70:101, 17*
The quarters: 20-39, 37-57 ,48-87, 72-100.
