“Dismantled” Apollon retaining a perfect record
Olympiacos got a comfortable win over Apollon at the SEF 97-60, for the 12th day of the Greek League at the same time retaining a perfect winning record in Greece.
Before even five minutes in the game were played, our team with Sasha Vezenkov in the lead, built a +10 lead (14-4). However, bad percentages from the outside, unforced turnovers and gaps in the ‘red & whites’ defense, allowed Apollon not only to chip away the difference but also getting in the driver’s seat (19-20) at 12’.
It was somewhere there that Bartzokas’ players turned the switch on… They put pressure in the defense, dominated the post thanks to Tarik Black, struck from the three point line with Alec Peters and George Papas and skyrocketed the difference to 18p. (40-22) at 18’. However, our team once again slowed down in the two minutes that followed, made some hasty decisions and saw Apollon closing in to 13p. (43-30) by the end of the first half.
In the 3rd quarter though, our team once again stepped on the gas pedal and practically decided the game really early in it. Moustapha Fall, who hadn’t played in the first half, was blocking at will, Sasha Vezenkov and Shaquielle McKissic took action in offence and the difference reached 30p. (70-40) at 28’. With the game having been decided, Giorgos Bartzokas decided to reserve energy and in view of the game against Real Madrid and took the main core off court. Nevertheless, Olympiacos got to further the difference even more (38p., 91-53 at 38’) and got the win with remarkable ease.
