The Cup stays in Piraeus!
Olympiacos 'tore Peristeri apart' 57-85 and won for the Greek Cup -the 11th one in the 'red & whites' history - for the second straight season!
The 'red & whites' put a stop to any ambitions Peristeri might have had from the start. They put pressure in defense and caused serious offensive hardship for the their opponent. At the same time, they got to move the ball in exemplary fashion, they initially struck in the paint with Fall and then from the perimeter with Papanikolaou, Vezenkov and Peters, building a +30 lead (11-41) at only 16'! Peristeri found target from the 6.75m. and closed in to 21-45 at the end of the first half, but it was impossible to change their fate...
With effective defense and Moustapha Fall dominating both posts, Olympiacos once again floored the gas pedal and sent the margin to 37p. (31-68) at 29'. The game had been decided early, but Bartzokas' players refused to slow down... They kept pushing in defense, Alec Peters continued being extremely effective from the three point line and lead went to +39 (40-79) at 34'. Keeping in mind the next Euroleague game, on the road against Valencia, Giorgos Bartzokas saw to maintain his team strong and fresh and hence Peristeri found the opportunity to close in running a 17-0 partial (57-79 at 38'). However, nothing could turn the tides and Olympiacos won the Greek Cup for the 11th time in his history!
MVP: Vezenkov!
The Olympiacos' forward, Sasha Vezenkov, won another individual accolade, being voted the Final's MVP.
The quarters: 10-26, 21-45, 34-68, 57-85.
