Fell to Fenerbahce
Olympiacos lost at the SEF to Fenerbahce 78-82 for the second leg of the Euroleague playoffs and now absolutely needs a break in Istanbul.
Isaiah Canaan, just like in the first game, was 'hot' from the three-point line and immensely helped so that our team got to lead 10-1 at the beginning of the game. The American guard was incapacitated early on though, after committing two fouls, and hence was benched. However, with a good defensive game and Sasha Vezenkov taking the batton in terms of scoring, our team maintained complete control and was leading with 16 at 11' (26-10). The Turkish team tried to get back in the game with long range shots, but up to 15' the difference was up to two digits (11p., 31-20). Neverthele4ss, Fener's the pressing defense did not allow the 'red & whites' to move the ball efficiently, they went with bad offensive choices and saw the guests closing in (mainly relying on Edwards) on 3p. (37-34) at 20'.
Playing an amazing game at times, Olympiacos - that never lost the lead in the 3rd quarter - got a difference of 7p. (51-43) at 27'. Fener, however, did not give up the fight... They put pressure in defense, lead our team to turning the ball over and with a three by Hayes they got ahead 56-59 at 33'. Led by Kostas Sloukas, our team got back to +5 (73-68), but the offensive rebounds and threes by Hayes kept the Turkish team on their feet and eventually, with a three by Motley and 1 of 2 free throws by Guduric they once got ahead with 2p. (76-78) with 33.9'' on the clock. An off target three by Vezenkov followed, a bucket by Dorsey (76-80, 8'' before the final buzzer), a lay-up by Sloukas (78-80, 5.5'' on the clock), while in a last desperate attempt to get the win, Olympiacos sent Guduric to the free throw line, who made them both though, writing the final 78-82.
Δεκάλεπτα: 24-10, 37-34, 56-51, 78-82.
