Olympiacos is in the final!
Olympiacos bested Monaco 76-62, qualified for the Euroleague final and on Sunday (21/05) they will be competing for the trophy against Real Madrid.
Our team made a quite nervous beginning, which was obvious in the fact that they were missing easy shots as well as many free throws (9/18 in the first half). On the contrary, Monaco, with Mike James spearheading the offence, imposed the tempo and led 11-18 at 9’. Kostas Sloukas and Shaquielle McKissic entering the game appeared to be giving our team energy, and they tied the score 22-22 at 13’. However, the French once again put pressure in defense, led the ‘red & whites’ to turnovers and bad decisions when attacking and succeeded in gaining a +12 lead (29-41) by the end of the first half.
In the second half though, Olympiacos appeared to be transformed! With superb defense, which did not allow Monaco to score more than 2p. in the 3rd quarter, and Papanikolaou, Vezenkov and Fall doing an amazing job offence wise, our team made an epic turnaround and found themselves at +13 (56-43) at 30’! Monaco tried to react, however, with the same recipe, an amazing defensive game and excellent ball movements, the ‘red & whites’ maintained absolute control and got the coveted ticket to the Euroleague final.
The quarters: 14-20, 29-41, 56-43, 76-62.
