Back to Back double crown!
Olympiacos was crowned the Greek League Champion for the 14th time in his history, in a season that the team got to absolutely dominate the Greek Competitions (Cup and SuperCup) and came half an inch away from also winning the Euroleague.
Our team succeeded in winning the title at the OAKA, in a game that wasn’t meant to come to an end…
2:46’’ before the end and while the score was 35-63 for the ‘red & whites’, Panathinaikos’ fans launched a cascade of objects and flares aiming the Olympiacos’ bench, resulting in the referees’ ordering the game to be suspended and at first ask for the evacuation of the gym. However, the turmoil elevated later on, with the officials deciding for the permanent suspension of the game, which was therefore automatically won by Olympiacos.

With good defense, good long range shooting and Thomas Walkup taking center stage, the ‘red & whites’ imposed their rhythm from the start and ‘built’ a 21p. lead (9-20) by 7’. Panathinaikos tried to come back (15-24 at 10’), but Olympiacos played some very pressing defense, ‘struck’ from the three point line and skyrocketed the difference to 16p. (21-37) at 15’. From there on, our team maintained complete control and went to the locker rooms at the end of the first half leading by 22p. (26-48). The ‘red & whites’ continued shooting with success from the three point line. Alec Peters made two back to back threes giving Olympiacos a +32 lead (31-63) at 25’ making absolutely obvious that nothing would be able to stop them from winning…
Kostas Papanikolaou was not included in the 12-man roster (injury).
• A minute of silence was observed before the beginning of the game in memoriam of the victims of the ship wreckage off Pylos in international waters.
