Bartzokas: «We can't enjoy our victory»
Olympiacos claimed victory over Zalgiris at the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF), and Giorgos Bartzokas congratulated his players during the post-game press conference; but he also made sure to address the serious injury suffered by Keenan Evans.
In his opening statement, the Olympiacos head coach said: “Congratulations to my players and to our fans. It was a very important win for us. I think we were solid, especially on defense, aside from our effort on defensive rebounding. But we scored 95 points against the best defense in the EuroLeague, without shooting an exceptional percentage from three-point range, and that, in a way, shows the capabilities of our team.
Congratulations to Zalgiris, and obviously for us, the next game is just as important as this one.”
Bartzokas was then asked about Evans’ new injury and how the team handled the moment. He replied: “There’s no unit of measurement for bad luck. That’s life. The truth is that we’re all very sad, obviously. We can’t really enjoy our victory because this is something that affects us deeply. I don’t think there’s much more to say right now.
Life goes on. We’ll wait to see what the final diagnosis is for Keenan’s injury, which unfortunately seems to be serious. From there, we’ll move forward. I admit that the atmosphere froze; both among our players and the fans. Right now, we’re all deeply saddened because it’s something that has really affected us emotionally.”
