The 2013 World Sporting Award Giuseppe Sciacca(Vatican) goes to Vassilis Spanoulis!
A great honor for the Greek basketball player of Olympiacos and the National Greek team, Vassilis Spanoulis, but also for our country, the allocation of 1st Sporting Award from the International Giuseppe Sciacca awards.
The award will be presented at the annual ceremony on Saturday, November 16, 2-13 at the Vatican City, in the presence of two Cardinals, Dario Castrillon Hoyos and Peter Turkson together with other important personalities from the political, cultural and scientific world communities.
The Secretary of the International Giuseppe Sciacca Awards, the Archeologist – Communications specialist, Vicky Bafataki, that has placed the nomination of Vassilis Spanoulis in the category of young athletes up to 35 years of age, stated: “I’m happy and proud that this year’s award is coming to Greece and to Vassilis Spanoulis. He’s a very talented player, high sporting accolades, moral presence… and example of an athlete and personality on courts. He’s a jewel of Greek Basketball and obviously the best player in Europe. The Electoral Committee has chosen him among dozens of high level athletes from all sports world wide and I feel twice as proud as a Greek for the vindication of my endorsement in the face of Vassilis Spanoulis”.
The director Giannis Smaragdis, member of the Presiding Committee of the Awards, stated on the award of the renowned Greek athlete: “Congratulations to Vassilis Spanoulis. His award is honoring Greek basketball and vindicates the talent and ethos he has presented”
Vassilis Spanoulis commented upon receiving the news: “It’s a great honor and joy to hear about the award for me, my team and my country. It’s a pleasant surprise”. The administration and the technical staff of Olympiacos greeted with joy the Spanoulis’ award.
