Morris: «We must first find chemistry and then you will see the better me»
Monte Morris arrived in Athens on Sunday morning and made his first statements as an Olympiacos' player at the airport, mentioning among else that he has been already receiving tokens of appreciation by the fans.
Asked about how he feels, Morris replied: "I feel good being here. It's a place I want to be and the basketball culture is one I enjoy. I'm already receiving tokens of appreciation. It's my turn to play hard for the team".
Then, the former NBAer talked about everything Giorgos Bartzokas told him to convince him to come to Greece: "He asked me to play my game, to have the same role I have had with the Nuggets, to be a floor general. To be aggressive and make everyone else better. My job is to give it all on both ends of the floor and deliver wins".
He was then asked about his motivations and whether he wants to go back to the NBA: "You know, I had been talking about it with my mother and the truth is God embraces everything. I may not even think about going back to the NBA. My focus is here, to Olympiacos, to find the best version of myself and I'm not worried about the NBA. I'm here now and I want to execute the plan, the best I can".
Of course, the new signee was asked whether he will be ready to take up responsibility to lead and commented the following: "If that's what the coach wants, that is going to be my role. I'm going to give my energy and my leadership to the team. I haven't been here from the start; it's going to take some adjusting. I first need to get to know the guys, learn how they play, where they want the ball. Now it's the time to find chemistry for the team and then I will be getting better".
Monte Morris answered about whether he has spoken about Olympiacos with Naz Mitrou-Long, with whom he had played in college with: "O know Nunn, I have player with Mitrou-Long in college, and I have talked to Dennis Shroeder. They all told me I'm going to love environment. I love playing in packed gyms, that exude energy. I'm thrilled about his new experience in my career".
Finally, Morris sent his own message to our fans: "I will be playing as hard as I can every night. I don't want to put more pressure on myself, I know it's a different game to that of the NBA. At the end of day though, it's basketball, so I have to control my game, play with a smile on my face and keep the fans engaged in the game".
