The event organized by Olympiacos, Novo Nordisk Hellas and the Piraeus Municipality on Thursday evening was completely successful. In the court set up for the event purposes, the participants were 100% successful in the three-point shots they made.
The Piraeus Mayor welcomed Giannis Bourousis and Jotam Halperin and presented them with awards for their participation as “ambassadors” in the “We change Diabetes” program. The kids that attended the event never stopped playing on the Novo court, while the adults visited the infirmary that had been set up to take a precaution test and get updates on diabetes.
Panagiotis Fassoulas was the one to open the event: “Today I have the honor to present this award to Olympiacos in the face of two brilliant athletes, Giannis Bourousis and Jotam Halperin and wish them of course to have a happy ending with their effort on May 7 at Paris. Here there is going to be a video wall for all those who will not be able to go to Paris. I am really happy and I am proud because the Olympiacos team shows by this activity that sports are not only what people that have no connection to sports try to present. The athletes are both sensitive and have various interests, but mainly, they have the power to return the love they receive from the fans back to them. I believe the time has come for everyone to change their life motto, their eating habits that are responsible for numerous diseases, and to support events like the one today, that aim to a better quality of life. And we can certainly do that with the support of athletes like Bourousis and Halperin. Congratulations to Novo Nordisk Hellas for their initiative. I want to wish that Olympiacos brings back to Piraeus the European trophy and of course the Greek Championship, for which they have to … kill the champion and bring it here to lift it up in the Koraes square”.
Giannis Bourousis spoke on the event but also on the Mayor’s wish: “All of you who have diabetes should keep trying because life goes on. We are going to try and bring the European trophy to Piraeus just like the Mayor had done in 1997”.
Olympios Papademetriou, on behalf of Novo Nordisk, pointed out: “Olympiacos BC is especially sensitive socially and so we are and that’s why we collaborated in the “We change Diabetes” campaign. The goal is to inform the people on diabetes prevention and sports are safest means to do that”.
