A great honor for Greece and V-Span
On Saturday, November 16, 2013, in the hall Magna della Pontificia Università Urbaniana in Vatican City, the 12th ceremony of the International Giuseppe Sciacca Award was held.
The International Awards Giuseppe Sciacca, with events based in the Vatican City, is one of the largest organizations worldwide that promote culture, science and social volunteering, as well as human values and give step to the outstanding youth in their fields from all over the world.
Greece, with a 35-member mission, traveled to Rome, where this year made a dynamic presence with two awards. The Special Jury Prize for Science of Paleontology came to Greece and Professor of Geology - Paleontology Auth, Evangelia Tsoukalas. The greatest achievement of the excavation team of Tsoukalas is the discovery in Milia, the largest mastodon tusk of 5.02 meters worldwide (tusk of elephant ancestor that lived in the area), 3,000,000 years who also won the award for Guinness World Records.
Evangelia Tsoukalas shared the prize with the famous Dutch Paleontology researcher Dick Mol, with huge voluntary work worldwide and great contribution in the science of paleontology.
A great honor and recognition for the Greek basketball player of Olympiacos and the National team Greece, Vassilis Spanoulis, but also for the country, was the International Sport Award for his great talent, ethics and sports performance. During the ceremony a video statement was aired, explaining why the athlete will be receiving his award in Greece on November 28 before the start of the Olympiakos - Galatasaray gam. A Press-Conference will follow the end of the game.
Besides the two Greeks honored, was Olga Sutulova, who starred in the movie by G. Smaragdis "God Loves Caviar ' 16 year old Jack Andraka, high school student from the U.S. who gained worldwide recognition for the sensor he discovered for the rapid and early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer and lung cancer, the 9 year old Vitalii Nechaiev from Ukraine, with the ultimate prize (Premio Assoluto 2013).
Vitalii who up to 3 years of age was considered deaf-mute and today is a global intellect in history, philhellene and lover of ancient Greek history. From 9 years of age is a University Professor at Bohdan Khmelnytskyy and the National University of Cherkasy.
By the hands of Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos, and in the presence of President Don Bruno Lima and the General Secretary Vicki Bafataki, Cardinal Peter Turkson was awarded the Culture Award, as to his great work in culture, peace and humanity. Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana was predominant choice for the Papal throne before the election of Pope Francis.
Finally, young Italian Maurizio Nobili was awarded in the economy. Vassilis Spanoulis did not attend the award ceremony due to prior commitments with Olympiakos and will receive the award before the jump ball of the match against Galatasaray. The moment the award was announced, there was a display of a message addressed by the captain of ' Reds ' to the attendees in the hall in Italian, while Ms Bafataki giva to Jack Andraka and Vitalii Nechaiev two balls with his signature.
