Rivals on the court - allies in the "Best thing"
A pleasant surprise was waiting for the children hospitalized in the second and fifth floor of Children's Hospital "Aghia Sophia" and the third floor of the "Panagiotis & Aglaia Kyriakou" hospital.
Players from the basketball teams of Olympiakos, Panathinaikos and AEK, which were united outside the playing courts by the OPAP "Best thing". Giorgos Printezis, Kostas Papanikolaou and Ioannis Papapetrou from Olympiakos, James Gist and Nikos Pappas from Panathinaikos and Dušan Šakota, Kostas Vasileiadis and Michael Dixon from AEK, together with OPAP employees and Chief Customer Officer of OPAP Mr. Petr Mategiofski, visited their young friends and gave them gifts. They also helped in the serving of lunch and wished all children a speedy recovery. The players were informed on refurbishments progress of the two pediatric hospitals implemented by OPAP since 2014 under the Corporate Responsibility program.
Major projects in the two pediatric hospitals
Already, OPAP has delivered 8 Nursing Units, a total area of 5.330 square meters and a capacity of 191 beds, completely changing the image of the two hospitals and creating a pleasant space for the children and their relatives. The "Aghia Sophia" hospital has renovated two Nursing Units on the 5th floor, a total area of 1,800 square meters and a capacity of 50 beds, the Intensive Neonatal Care Unit with a capacity of 50 incubators, S & B Orthopedics 2nd floor, with a capacity of 29 beds, the A 'B & Surgical 2nd floor, with a capacity of 32 beds, two 9 stories stairways and the main entrance of the 1st floor.
The 'Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou" Hospital has renovated the Nursing Unit of the 3rd floor of the A Wing, a total area of 550 square meters and a capacity of 30 beds, the central entrances of the ground floor and the first floor, the central staircase, waiting rooms and replaced the central elevators. In all renovated spaces of the two hospitals, repairs have been made and partial replacements of the Hotelier and Office Supplies. Also, in both pediatric hospitals the room decorations was renovated to create a suitable environment for children that will work therapeutically and be fully consistent with modern medical concepts.
Petr Matejovsky, Chief Customer Officer OPAP SA: "I am very proud of the work that OPAP has implemented in both pediatric hospitals of St. Sofia and Pan & Aglaia Kyriakou. When I visited for the first time in 2014, the picture that I was confronted was completely different from that of today. Today, almost three years after the start of the project of the renovation, I see a huge change. I see new fully renovated floors, see new hotel equipment, new lifts, new stairs, new entrances, but above all I see children's smiles, the doctors' and nurses'. This was exactly the main goal of OPAP when launched this ambitious project. In 2014 we said that we will renovate the two major pediatric hospitals in Greece and we implemented our commitment to the full. We have already delivered the two pediatric hospitals with 8 Nursing Units, a total area of 5.330 square meters and a capacity of 191 beds and continue with even more projects as the objective through the project is to offer a better future to the next generation".
Manolis Papasavvas, Chief of the "Aghia Sophia" Children's Hospital: "We wish to thank OPAP for the cooperation which we have had since 2014, which is very important for our hospital. So far we have renovated three nursing units and at the end of April 2017 another one will be delivered to the hospital. We have planned to have fully modernized day-patient unit plus the single day surgery units for next year, as well as central sterilization for the whole hospital. I would like to invite everyone to attend the Sunday Marathon because the more the entries, the more money OPAP will provide for the renovation of the pediatric hospital ".
