Alba Berlin: Always dangerous
Last season’s Eurocup finalist, Alba Berlin, returned to the Euroleague after 2015, aiming to a solid presence with the top European club competition.
Τhe brightest star: Aito Garcia Reneses ! The German team does not have any superstars in its roster, but has one in its bench. The Spanish coach, winner of nine ACB titles with Barcelona, five Copa Del Rey ones (Barcelona 4, Badalona 1), 1 Saporta Cup (Barcelona), 2 Korac Cup titles (Barcelona), 1 FIBA Europe Cup (Badalona), 1 ULEB Cup (Badalona) and a few lost Euroleague final fours that came to characterize him at one time – unjustifiably so for many people – as a ‘loser’ is undoubtedly the biggest name the Germans have with their team.
I know you from someplace: Alba does not have any player in its roster that has any connection to Greece.
Like a tourist: In case you travel to the German city to support our team, here are some tips. Berlin is the capital and largest in size and population city of Germany.
Must see: Sightseeings in the city are plenty… We propose that you visit the famous Brandenburg Gate, the iconic Berlin gate in the central avenue, Unter den Linden that takes after the Propylaea of Acropolis in Athens. Also, the Pergamonmuseum is of extreme interest, since it hosts some of the most renowned ancient exhibits in the world and was named after Pergamon Altar that stands at the main entrance..
Must do: A stroll by what has been left of the infamous wall that was dividing the city. A part of 1300 meters that is has been the famous East Side Gallery since 1990. On the wall, 118 artists from 21 countries have drawn interesting graffiti.
Must eat: Kartoffelsuppe: A smooth potato soup, usually served with sausage, thyme and marjoram. Brotsuppe: A thick soup that is based on whole wheat bread and gets extra flavor from sour cream and fried bacon. Huehnerfrikassee mit Languste: A high class dish with chicken fricassee that is served together with river langoustines and square puff pastries.
Did you know that:
*Giorgos Printezis had played for Aito Reneses when with Unicaja Malaga.
*Taylor Rochestie had played for Alba Berlin from February 2011 through the end of the season.
