Olympiacos had an easy evening at Ivanofeio and got qualified for the Greek Cup quarter finals, following a performance that largely satisfied coach Giorgos Bartzokas.
“Today we had the chance to play a very solid game against an opponent that in no way did we underestimate. We know they have quality foreigners and veteran Greek players. We also know that the atmosphere of the game would very particular. You don’t get to have a lot of communicating with the bench because the noise is very loud. It was a good opportunity for us to prove our level status. We got the qualification and it was something we had wanted. I want to congratulate Iraklis and coach Skourtopoulos and wish them all the best for what comes next”.
Asked about the atmosphere created by the Iraklis’ fans, he replied: “It was really nice. The presence of fans had been missed. You can’t have basketball without fans”.
A surprise cake for Larentzakis!
On his part, Giannoulis Larentzakis who was celebrating his birthday, pointed out: “We played a good game. We played good defense throughout the game, remained focused and showed some good elements. We definitely made some mistakes, because it’s still too early. In general though, from what I can also get from the coach’s comments, he was also happy with our performance, we had a good game, we qualified and we now have one week to prepare for the beginning of the Euroleague and the Greek League. From today’s game, we keep the defense we played, the energy and eagerness we showed and of course the victory”.
About the first European game against Baskonia (01/10) at the SEF, he said: “It’s only certain that the Euroleague is very different to the kind of games we have played so far. The level in Europe is very high, so we need to remain 100% focused on our goal, which is to win. Premieres are always difficult and hide traps”.
