Bartzokas: «We have to stay humble» (vid)

Olympiacos got a victory against a big opponent, however, the coach of Olympiacos, Giorgos Bartzokas, tried to tone down emotions and stress and that the ‘reds’ need to remain humble and keep their heads together…

“Congratulations to my team, it’s obviously a big win. We controlled the game tempo for forty minutes and were leading for most of it, so we deserved the win. It wasn’t easy, against this really great team. Right now they have no gaps in their roster. They have 2-3 players for every position, they have athleticism and quality all over. Leading for almost forty minutes and playing with such intensity is a testament to our potential. Our fans also deserve credit for the huge boost they gave us. We missed them a lot last year. Since I’m Greek and I know that everyone will start talking big tomorrow, that we are going to be winning the Euroleague and such, I’d like to stress that it’s only one win for the second day. We need to stay humble, keep our heads on our shoulders and only think about the next game. It’s the only way to be successful”.

On his part, Real Madrid’s coach, Pablo Laso, pointed out: “Congrats to Olympiacos for the win. We played a balanced game in both halves. Both teams played a high level defensive game. I think that the two minutes when Dorsey and Vezenkov got to score 8 back to back points were the ones that made the difference. Olympiacos got a good lead and it was difficult for us to come back from trailing. If you take a look at the stats, it’s hard to win on the road with only 12% from the three point line, we only scored 3 for 24 attempts. Some times numbers are just numbers, but tonight the three points percentages were decisive and did not allow us to win. Olympiacos deserves credit, they played a very good game, a very strong one and got a very good win”.
