Tuesday noon (08/02) the whole team of Olympiacos visited the monument commemorating the victims of Gate 7 and paid tribute to the 21 tragically lost fans.
Captain Giorgos Printezis left a wreath while all the others left one red rose each.
“It’s a day of memory. A sad day not only for the club, but for all the country”, Giorgos Printezis pointed out. “The fact that it wasn’t possible to have a memoriam service, does not erase the memories of what had happened. We all hope that incidents like that never happen again. It may be that today is not directly related to the incident with Alkis. They are two different cases, however, it is our common wish that sports never get to mourn victims again and that no one loses their beloved”.
On his part, the ‘reds’ coach, pointed out: “Today’s anniversary is among the most significant in the history of Olympiacos, not because of triumphs, wins or titles but rather for the loss of 21 human lives. It’s the saddest day of the year for the Olympiacos’ family. Let’s wish that young people never again are so tragically lost. I think that all the Olympiacos’ teams, of all sports, need to be dedicating one title, one winning game to their memory. To them and to their families”.
