"First goal achieved"
The Olympiacos’ coach, Giorgos Bartzokas gave due credit following winning the Greek Cup trophy.
“Congratulations to Panathinaikos, they played a very good game and forced us to our limits. They hit some very difficult shots and put pressure on us. In general though, we remained calm, played with confidence, our defense was very good in the final 15 minutes and that gave us boost. It’s the first goal of the season that was successfully completed. The Media had presented the final to be as a life and death game, but to quote Panagiotis Giannakis, ‘I have played too many life and death games and I’m still alive’. It’s an important victory, but one wins and the other one loses. We wish to thank our Presidents, our fans, the coach staff and our players”.
Talking about the 4th quarter, he said: “Our players played extraordinary defense, we did not give anything easy to Panathinaikos, we played with contacts and when you impose yourself mentally on the opponent, it is only natural that you also start scoring when attacking. Some very important bucket came, like a three by Dorsey, a tip in by Vezenkov and a drive by McKissic”.
On his part, the voted MVP, Tyler Dorsey, stated: “It was a tough battle. What turned the game around was our defense, that was aggressive and gave us energy in the offense. We did not panic and showed character despite trailing the score. It’s a wonderful feeling for me and everyone on the team to win this title and we want to continue accordingly”.
