«Jump-ball» of the Super Cup with awards!

The Olympiacos’ delegation traveled on Friday to Rhodes, where the first title of the season, the Super Cup, shall be decided.

The ‘red & white’ will be playing against Promitheas Patras for the semi finals (Oct. 1, 20.00 CET), while the teams for the second semi-final game are Panathinaikos – Kolossos Rhodes.

On the eve of the games, HEBA held an event where our team’s coach Giorgos Bartzokas, together with our captain, Kostas Papanikolaou, got to talk about the first title of the season.

Also the awards for the first of the first of the past season were given out. More specifically, the General Director of Olympiacos BC, Nikos Lepeniotis, received on behalf of the team the award for winning the double (Greek League and Greek Cup titles) during the 2021-22 season.

Sasha Vezenkov took home MVP honor, member of the All-Greek League team, most improved player and also most popular one!

Kostas Sloukas was included in the All-Greek League team and Thomas Walkup won top defender title.

“Readiness is a very fluid term, since we have had six international at the Eurobasket”, the coach of the ‘red & white’ Giorgos Bartzokas commented. “We got to work together during these past few days. We are not as ready as we would like to be. We held the pre-season with half our team. Nevertheless, the fact that we have a main core since last season, is a plus in terms of homogeny. Right now we are playing for a title, we are going to be called to assess where we stand. We are going to be playing with a lot of respect for the opponent and we are going to try and perform at the best of our ability”.

Kostas Papanikolaou stressed: “It’s the first season we participate this celebratory event. I agree with everyone else that the teams are not at their best possible condition, but we are talking about a title and we are going to try and win it. The team is going to be ready to fight for every chance we got on the floor. I wish everyone good luck and a season with more families and less violence in the arenas”.
