Defeat at OAKA levels Finals series at 1–1
In a disappointing performance, Olympiacos suffered its first defeat of the season at the OAKA, losing 68–58 to Panathinaikos and allowing the finals series to be tied at 1–1.
For Olympiacos, that struggled offensively, shooting just 6/23 from 3-point range and 14/28 from inside the arc, Evan Fournier was the team's leading scorer with 15 points.
Head coach Giorgios Bartzokas started the game with Thomas Walkup, Evan Fournier, Kostas Papanikolaou, Sasha Vezenkov, and Nikola Milutinov. Team captain Papanikolaou scored Olympiacos’ first seven points of the game. The opening quarter then turned into a tense defensive battle, with both teams struggling offensively. Olympiacos closed the period with a 6-point lead (15–9) following a 3-pointer by Vezenkov.
The second quarter began much like the first ended, with both sides continuing to miss scoring opportunities. Olympiacos came close to building a double-digit lead but failed to capitalize on several possessions. Instead of falling behind by 12 points, Panathinaikos cut the deficit to five thanks to a four-point play by Jerian Grant. Later, Vassilis Toliopoulos reduced the gap to a single point (30–29) before halftime. A few minutes before the end of the first half, Dimitris Giannakopoulos entered the court area, creating tension inside the OAKA and causing the game to be suspended for several minutes.
The second half started even worse for Olympiacos. The Red & Whites were held scoreless for four minutes, while Panathinaikos, led by Nigel Hayes-Davis, extended their lead to 10p (44–34). Olympiacos finished the third quarter having made only one field goal and with just 38 points through 30 minutes of game time.
Fournier finally ended Olympiacos’ drought from beyond the arc, but Panathinaikos, benefiting from their aggressive defense and with Hayes-Davis making all the crucial shots, maintained a double-digit lead and secured the victory, 68–58.
The quarters: 15–9, 30–29, 48–38, 68–58.
